Decent surfaces, just minor granularity. Full obverse break lending the variety its nickname, a ''horn'' has developed in the lower left obverse field that looks much like a crescent moon shape.
264 1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 4-L. Mailed Bust Left. Horned Bust VF $400.00

140.6 grains. Very Fine. Here is an attractive specimen of this common variety easily distinguishable in this die state by a large ''horn''-like die break in the left obverse field. Surfaces are a marvelous medium brown and exhibit no planchet flaws whatsoever. Tops of letters at left periphery of both sides are weak, and a rim bruise near 'C' of 'CONNEC' should be noted for complete...  more

123.7 grains. Called ''Sharpness of Very Fine in places, About Good elsewhere'' in the Perkins sale, an accurate representation of this coin that was probably struck with the dies in axial misalignment, causing the upper obverse and lower reverse to be well struck and lower obverse and upper reverse to be very poorly struck. Surfaces are golden brown with some olive overtones and are just a...  more

1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 33.39-Z.20 (Rarity-7). Draped Bust Left. 120.7 grains. Very Good or...
120.7 grains. Very Good or better in terms of wear. Deep tannish brown on the devices and legends, the fields are dark with deposits and advanced porosity. Some ancient tool marks and scuffs in the fields are noted for the sake of completeness but do not seriously detract from the overall appeal of this well used, very rare Connecticut copper variety. When the Perkins (2000) specimen...  more

Brown Uncirculated. 149.3 grains. Deep chestnut brown surfaces are wholly free of pesky carbon flecks or laminations and exhibit rich mint lustre on both sides. Well struck overall, the globe beneath the reverse effigy displays its lines of latitude and longitude while the very highest points of the devices show only trifling weakness for a Connecticut copper. The obverse is centered...  more

142.5 grains. About Very Good and a coin that probably exhibited much more detail before its surfaces took on a uniform, advanced granularity on both sides. Light olive brown in most places, with some darker brown patches in areas on both sides. A perfect, small planchet clip is clearly visible near 'EC' of CONNEC. The recently sold Ford collection was missing one of this variety. Here is a...  more
