1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 33.21-Z.13 (Rarity-6+). Draped Bust Left. 123.7 grains. Called ''Sharpness of Very Fine in places, About Good elsewhere'' in the Perkins sale, an accurate representation of this coin that was probably struck with the dies in axial misalignment, causing the upper obverse and lower reverse to be well struck and lower obverse and upper reverse to be very poorly struck. Surfaces are golden brown with some olive overtones and are just a touch porous. Struck a bit off center on both sides, causing some letters to partially fall off the flan. Deep scratches roughly forming the numeral '4' are found on both sides and must be accepted on this specimen of a very rare variety.
Ex George C. Perkins Collection (Stack's, January 2000, lot 393); earlier ex Robert Vlack, March 1984, privately.
