Lot # Description Grade Hammer Price 4380 1892 Choice Brilliant Proof CH BR PF $900.00 A vibrant coin which has splashes of teal and gold near the rims, with the majority of the surfaces showing light gold or frosty white. The coin is sharp, but the obverse toning is a bit mottled, and minor hairlines can be found with a loupe on Liberty's cheek. First year of issue, and always popular with date collectors. 4381 1892'O' Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $1,700.00 Toned with tawny gold and gray over most of the surfaces, and attractive. A few minor nicks and handling marks nudge this one from a Gem grade, but this coin is much finer than normally encountered for this scarce issue. The strike is average on the reverse, with slight weakness on the eagle and arrow feathers. A low mintage of 390,000 pieces keeps demand high for those that do turn...  more 4382 1892'S' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $2,200.00 The entire coin is quite satiny and appealing, with light silver-gray and a touch of russet-gold near the rims. Boldly struck throughout, with strong definition on the arrow feathers and the eagle's chest, areas which are frequently found poorly defined on this date and mint. Despite the adequate mintage, this date has been considered difficult to obtain for decades, and has earned its...  more 4383 1893 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $2,400.00 Toned with pleasing light to medium gold over the obverse and reverse, with dark blue through the dentils in places. A fully struck coin that has been carefully preserved since the time of issue. Faint hairlines kept this one from a higher grade, but it retains strong eye appeal and good quality for the assigned grade. 4384 1893'O' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $4,000.00 Light golden toning surrounds the periphery while the centers are silver with a touch of gold. A couple of minor reeding nicks are found in the right obverse field near the stars, another on Liberty's neck. Fairly well struck with minor weakness on the arrow feathers and near the right edge of the shield on the wing. Both dies show evidence of clashing. This result was likely caused by slight off-centering or a loose collar when this one was struck. There are some minor hairlines and scuffs on Liberty's face and neck, as expected for the grade. Toned with delicate peripheral gold on the obverse, lighter and more even golden hues on the reverse. One for the date collector who needs this issue. 4389 1895 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $1,200.00 The devices show strong mint frost which retains the snow white quality that produces contrast against the reflective fields. Peripherally toned with deep russet and gold, which frames the design elements. Examination will discover faint hairlines in the delicate fields, and these are all that kept this coin from a higher grade. The strike is quite sharp for this issue, with no softness on the claw or arrow feathers. Strong eye appeal with just a couple of minor reeding nicks on Liberty's profile, and a scuff or two near the top of her head keep this one from a Gem grade. A lovely collector coin to represent this issue. 4391 1896 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $1,100.00 Attractive dark blue and russet toning over much of the surface, mostly in small irregular patches in the fields. The devices are well frosted but have enough toning to partially mask this feature. Fully and completely struck, and well preserved with slight evidence of hairlines on Liberty's neck and cheek. This is one of the key dates to the series which has never turned up in significant numbers in any grade, particularly so in Mint State. The centers are bright white, and this further enhances the contrast with the delicate russet toning around the periphery. Fully and completely struck by the dies, with the tiniest details brought up to their full definition. Thankfully the surfaces match the quality of the strike and toning, with no distracting nicks or hairlines to diminish this prize. One for the collector who...  more 4398 1898'O' Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $7,500.00 Light russet peripheral toning and pleasing for the satiny, full mint bloom. The strike is typically blunt on a couple of the lower right obverse stars, and on the eagle. Clean surfaces which show a few minor scuffs and hairlines mostly on Liberty's cheek, not unexpected for the grade. Another key date which is elusive in this state of preservation. 4399 1898'S' Brilliant Uncirculated BU $2,800.00 - and with semi-prooflike surfaces. Apparently an early strike from the dies, as they show more reflectivity in the fields. Toned with a delicate veil of gold with scattered blue accents near the rims. A decent strike for this date, with strong obverse stars and minimal softness on the eagle's claw and arrow feathers. Clean surfaces reveal minimal evidence of handling or hairlines despite...  more 4400 1899 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $3,700.00 Strong cameo frost on the devices. Golden toning with an arc of magenta on the upper obverse and dark blue along the extreme edge. A splendid coin for the full and complete strike, deep mint frost and highly reflective fields. As stated above, the silver Proofs coined in the 1890's include some of the most frosty, reflective and downright gorgeous coins to come from the Philadelphia...  more 4401 1899'O' Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $1,350.00 A few light hairlines on the cheek from a higher grade. Abundant mint frost in the fields, and toned with medium russet around the periphery. The strike is sharp with nearly full definition on the eagle's claw and arrow feathers. There are some minor hairlines on the cheek and these are all that limit the grade. A wonderful example for the date collector. 4402 1899'S' Brilliant Uncirculated BU $3,000.00 Attractively toned with a combination of hazy blue and gold over slightly reflective fields. The strike is bold throughout. A few random ticks are found with a loupe, none particularly annoying or distracting. One for the date or type collector who appreciates colorful toning and eye appeal. 4403 1900 Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $2,600.00 Multicolored toning adds to the appeal of this desirable issue. The colors range through russet and blue with varying intensity on both sides, and are a little mottled. Well preserved with no heavy hairlines, although a few very minor ones can be seen with a loupe and are consistent with the given grade. 4404 1900'O' Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $14,000.00 Fresh original surfaces throughout, with ample mint frost to satisfy any collector, and delicate gold toning over the devices. Fairly well struck, with minimal softness on the claw and arrow feathers. Clean fields and cheek on Liberty, although we note a minor low area on her cheek which seems to have been mint caused. An impressive coin for the grade, and one which has claims to the...  more 4405 1901 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $3,500.00 The devices show cameo frost which is undisturbed by handling. Toned with a dash of peripheral gold on the rims, but white in general. As 1902 unfolded, the Philadelphia Mint changed the way they polished the Proof dies, and subsequent coins were struck in the all brilliant finish and no longer show the contrast seen on this lovely 1901 Proof. Another desirable coin from this memorable...  more 4406 1901'O' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $4,750.00 One of the more difficult dates to find in this grade, as few were saved from the time of issue, and most entered circulation with little fanfare. The surfaces have a few minor slide lines on Liberty's cheek, and the strike is a touch weak on the reverse. Delicate gold toning over hazy lustre, and appealing enough for most collectors. Scarce this nice, and decidedly rare finer. 4408 1902 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $1,100.00 Toned with bright yellow near the rim of the obverse, with a blush of faint gold over most of the surface, the reverse shows gold and iridescent hues that are somewhat mottled on that side. Struck in the all mirror finish that was adopted in 1902 by the Philadelphia Mint. The devices and fields no longer show the high degree of contrast seen on previous years. A few trivial hairlines...  more 4409 1902'S' Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $6,500.00 Satiny lustre throughout but slightly muted by the delicate silver-yellow toning. The strike is reasonably sharp, although characteristic weakness is found on the eagle's claw holding the arrows, and along the junction of the right wing to the body. Clean surfaces with minimal signs of handling, and identifiable by a pair of nearly vertical nicks on Liberty's brow. A coin with strong...  more 4410 1903 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $2,200.00 Peripherally toned with dark golden hues, with a touch of blue near the rim on the obverse. The reverse displays less toning, but similar gold in color. Precisely executed by the dies with the surfaces and fields retaining their reflectivity. Liberty's cheek is excellent, and lacks the usual hairlines. A modest mintage of 755 pieces keeps collector demand high for attractive examples.
