Similarly inscribed with the date of the U.S. Treasury's planned change to lower weight, place of striking is abbreviated RUTHERF. This reverse shows .G./20. positioned very tightly together. Pleasing red-gold lustre survives around the sharp lettering for bold visual effect. NGC AU53. 2620 1852 $50.00. Augustus Humbert, U.S. Assayer. K.11 (R-5) EF $12,000.00 Extremely Fine. The scroll over C.C. Wright's Defiant Eagle is inscribed 887 THOUS, edges are reeded on this final ''Slug'' struck by the U.S. Assayer. The reverse is the standard Humbert engine-turned ''target.'' Wear is evident on the reliefs and both sides show the scattered marks in the soft metal that are so frequently encountered on these massive gold pieces. 2621 1853 $20.00 United States Assay Office of Gold.
