A single vertical fold near the right edge keeps this note out of the Uncirculated category. Series 47 VF $3,600.00 Very Fine with respect to ''arm's length'' appearance. There is, however, a tiny central fold junction hole as well as three repaired quarterfold splits. The repairs are most noticeable from the back, and the note is otherwise rather clean and appealing. A Gem were it not for the back centering being somewhat askew. The paper quality is marvelously fresh and offers outstanding contrast. This handsome note is free of any particularly noteworthy defects. Fr.31 CH EF $1,000.00 1880. No.A1678510. Choice Extremely Fine. Quarter-folded vertically, otherwise this well centered example is crisp and smooth. This type with a large red seal and blue serial numbers is clearly rarer than any of the other Series 1880 $1.00 major design types. CGA Extremely Fine-45. 343 $1.00. Fr.36. 1917. No.B11111111A. EF $5,000.00 A strong Extremely Fine specimen. Wonderfully crisp and full-bodied, this specimen exhibits vertical quarterfolding. The front color is bright, and there is only the slightest trace of soiling along two of the back folds. Unlisted in the current census and sure to attract plenty of bidder interest. 344 $1.00. Fr.37. 1917. No.D100000000A. Unlisted in the current census EF $8,000.00 Extremely Fine or essentially so. This note exhibits vertical corner folds (two of which are quite deep), as well as a few smaller folds at the corners. The paper maintains a full measure of crispness for a banknote within this grade range. No.E100000000A. Choice Crisp Uncirculated CH CU $13,000.00 Bright, fresh, and quite enticing. The upper left margin is a bit tight and there is a tiny, well concealed stain in the upper right emblem. As stated in the description of the prior lot, there were no such Fr.37 100,000,000 notes listed in the current census before the appearances in this auction sale. Very Choice Crisp Uncirculated VERY CH CU $26,000.00 - bordering on the Gem category. Well centered on the front and just a bit low on the back. The paper quality is outstanding, and the imperfections that are discernible are extremely minor and of trivial consequence. Crisp Uncirculated CU $20,000.00 There is a single corner tip fold as well as some very minor handling. Fresh, entirely honest, and quite satisfying. Although three serial number 1 Fr.37 Legal Tender Notes are known, as well as a few single digit serial number Fr.39 Legal Tender Notes, the discovery piece offered here is unique in that it is the only known serial number 1 $1.00 Legal Tender Note of this signature combination! 350 $1.00. Fr.39 CH CU $240.00 1917. No.T20973069A. Choice Crisp Uncirculated. Strong embossing and great color gives this note nice appeal. The note is centered toward the bottom. 351 $1.00. Fr.40 VERY CH CU $1,000.00 1923. No.A1800B. Very Choice Crisp Uncirculated, bordering on the Gem category. Bright, vibrant, and wonderfully wholesome. The seal and serial numbers exhibit excellent embossing. Were it not for the slightest trace of handling, this note would be an out-and-out Gem. 352 $2.00. Fr.51 CH CU $1,000.00 1880. No.Z11106435. This note has all the characteristics of a Choice Crisp Uncirculated note but is centered toward the bottom margin, which it does not touch. The color and embossing are first rate and the paper quality is quite good. 353 $2.00. Fr.52 EF $375.00 1880. No.Z19657474. Extremely Fine. Well centered for this issue with good color and with a single vertical center fold as its main detraction. A handsome example of this popular denomination. 354 $2.00. Fr.58 CH CU $325.00 1917. No.A92584369A. Choice Crisp Uncirculated. A wonderful note with strong embossing and great color. The paper quality is top-notch and the centering is good for this issue. 355 $2.00. Fr.59 VF $300.00 1917. No.B43400203A. Very Fine with nice crispness for the grade. Cut close at the top but with nice color; $5.00. Fr.88. 1907. No.E90714524. Very Fine with good centering and nice overall color. An excellent type note for the grade. 2 pieces. 356 $2.00. Fr.60 AU $160.00 1917. No.D63949925A. About Uncirculated. The only folds on this specimen are evident at the upper left corner. 357 $5.00. Fr.61a. 1862. No.1. Series 71 G $1,100.00 A strong Good, perhaps a trifle better. Some light trimming is evident at the top and bottom borders, otherwise this repair-free example displays only honest, balanced wear. One of a paltry nine notes known of this Friedberg number that bear serial number one. 358 $5.00. Fr.61a. 1862. No.1. Series 72 VG $2,600.00 Very Good or nearly so. Only minor fraying and a single short split are evident at the borders. Two or three small bald spots are visible on the back. This rare note is new to the census and is part of the four specimens included in this sale that bring the total population of known serial number one notes of this Friedberg number to a meager nine pieces. 359 $5.00. Fr.61a. 1862. No.1. Series 78 CU $6,000.00 Choice Very Fine. Vibrant and enjoying excellent paper quality for a note of this fragile issue. The cut of the note, though not full on every margin, does not at all enter into the border design of the note. With the exception of a single example that grades Crisp Uncirculated, the very handsome specimen offered here is the finest of only nine serial number one notes known of this Friedberg...  more 360 $5.00. Fr.61a. 1862. No.1. Series 92 VG $3,000.00 Very Good or better and offering pleasant paper color for a note within this grade range. There are, however, some pinholes as well as a fairly long split at the right border that has been repaired with paper tape on the back. Rare. One of only nine known serial number one notes of this Friedberg number. 361 $5.00. Fr.63. 1862. No.1. New Series 33 G $1,600.00 Good. The bottom right corner tip is missing, and there is some light tattering at areas along the borders. Four small paper tape repairs are evident upon examination of the back, however the front gives a rather decent presentation for a note in this condition. Rare, there being only 8 known serial number one specimens of this Friedberg number. The note offered here is new to the census. 362 $5.00. Fr.63b. 1862. No.2. New Series 77 VG $1,000.00 A solid, entirely intact Very Good specimen that is free of any splits or repairs. The borders are largely quite broad with the exception of a single tight area at the bottom left. There are a few minor paper voids at the left front, and the upper right front displays ''Wash D.C.'' written in ink. The initials ''JHS'' are written in ink at the lower left back corner.
