1866 5¢. J.490 (Low R-7). Copper, PE. Very Choice Brilliant Proof. Gleaming deep red fields are richly reflective and all devices are precisely detailed. This splendidly reflective red-brown Pattern combines the Shield design of the circulating Two Cents with the distinctive sharp-leafed wreath reverse with the ''Dutch 5'' distinguished by an oddly bulbous-knobbed top, wide lower loop and bold knob at the bottom. The origin of the designation ''Dutch'' for this style of number is unclear but the few Pattern designs using this reverse are eagerly sought by collectors. Here is a Pattern whose rarity is nicely matched by its great beauty. Only one example has been graded NGC PF64RB.
