1858 1¢. Judd 208. Copper-Nickel, PE. Very Choice Brilliant Proof. This important Pattern bears...
This important Pattern bears an Indian head as adopted in 1858, the reverse presenting a laurel wreath composed of 5-leaf clusters somewhat similar to that adopted the next year. Although composed of 89% Copper and 11% Nickel, the coin's reflective surfaces are more akin to Bronze in their tawny beauty. NGC PF64.

1866 5¢. J.490 (Low R-7). Copper, PE. Very Choice Brilliant Proof. Gleaming deep red fields are...
Gleaming deep red fields are richly reflective and all devices are precisely detailed. This splendidly reflective red-brown Pattern combines the Shield design of the circulating Two Cents with the distinctive sharp-leafed wreath reverse with the ''Dutch 5'' distinguished by an oddly bulbous-knobbed top, wide lower loop and bold knob at the bottom. The origin of the designation ''Dutch''...  more

1896 5¢. J.1768 (R-5). Copper, PE. Gem Brilliant Proof, approaching the Superb category. Here...
- approaching the Superb category. Here is a thoroughly pleasing example of one of the last collectible U.S. Patterns, Charles E. Barber's design featuring a U.S. shield over crossed poles tipped with Liberty Cap and eagle, LIBERTY on a ribbon crossing the shield's center. The reverse presents a circular laurel wreath enclosing a tall '1' over CENT. Red-brown surfaces are largely red for...  more

1869 25¢. J.727 (R-5). Silver, RE. Superb Gem Brilliant Proof. Flawless fields and microscopically...
Flawless fields and microscopically detailed devices swim in pale pearl-gray and light orange-gold obverse toning of exquisite beauty. This reverse plunges boldly deep into the electric blue spectrum. A handsome Liberty faces left in a pointed diadem, a tight reverse laurel-oak wreath gives the denomination as 25 CENTS, STANDARD SILVER. Note that the denomination is not QUARTER but 25...  more

1859 50¢. Judd 240 (R-5). Copper, Reeded Edge. Very Choice Brilliant Proof. Deep brown surfaces...
Deep brown surfaces are full of latent reflectivity. This obverse presents James B. Longacre's ornate Liberty bust crowned flamboyantly with ivy and oak. The reverse encloses the denomination 1/2 DOLLAR in Anthony C. Paquet's Wreath of Cereals for an unusually well-balanced yet serene design. Here is a virtually Gem example of one of the most original pre-Civil War designs, certainly...  more

1869 50¢. Judd 750 (Low R-7). Copper, RE. Gem Brilliant Proof. Liberty bust wears a pointed diadem,...
Liberty bust wears a pointed diadem, as well as a headband inscribed LIBERTY in raised letters. The denomination is expressed as 50 CENTS rather than Half Dollar, typical of the carefully prepared but never issued Standard Silver series. Deep brown-gold covers the flashing fields with a distinctly silver sheen occupying the centers of this razor-sharp strike. Only 4 certified by PCGS,...  more

1870 $1.00. J.1003 (Low R-7). Silver, PE. Brilliant Proof, close to the Choice category. Liberty sits...
- close to the Choice category. Liberty sits erect, gazing into the distance on this Barber design, her shield hidden from the viewer by her knee. The reverse is that of the regular Liberty Seated Silver Dollar then being issued. This impressive coin's brilliant mirror silver displays a flavor of clear gold with some scattered hairlines to be found on the obverse. Here is one of the more...  more

1870 $1.00. J.1005 (Low R-6). Copper, PE. Gem Brilliant Proof. Barber's seated Liberty and regular...
Barber's seated Liberty and regular issue eagle appear on this fiery red pattern, a razor-sharp combination of a proposed Barber obverse and ''sandwich board'' eagle reverse. The devices create a fascinating two-tone contrast with the mirror fields, all drenched in mint red of the highest quality. This coin represents an exceptional state of preservation and is sure to attract the close...  more

1879 Goloid Metric Dollar. J.1617 (R-4). Silver, RE. Very Choice Brilliant Proof. A wealth of harmonious...
A wealth of harmonious light russet-gold dominates this coin's flashing silver surfaces. William Barber's tousle-haired Liberty dominates this obverse; the reverse spells out the components of Dr. Wheeler Hubbell's Goloid alloy, a combination of Gold and Silver, with the special motto SOLI DEO GLORIA, Glory to God Alone. Hubbell believed his patented alloy would resolve the burning...  more

1878 $5.00. Judd 1574 (High R-6). Copper, RE. Gem Brilliant Proof. Red-brown surfaces glow with underlying...
Red-brown surfaces glow with underlying ember red. William Barber's Liberty head wears a head band with a single jewel, the reverse presents a stately eagle holding olive branch and three arrows which pass behind the wings. This large diameter allowed retention of the standard weight but with a thinner planchet than the circulating Half Eagles. This was to discourage the fraudulent practice...  more
