Here is a thoroughly pleasing example of one of the last collectible U.S. Patterns, Charles E. Barber's design featuring a U.S. shield over crossed poles tipped with Liberty Cap and eagle, LIBERTY on a ribbon crossing the shield's center. The reverse presents a circular laurel wreath enclosing a tall '1' over CENT. Red-brown surfaces are largely red for outstanding beauty and undeniable visual appeal. From this date forward, most known Patterns are beyond the reach of collectors, making this attractive design doubly significant. Only one coin has been certified NGC PF66RB.
