Lot # Description Grade Hammer Price 4009 1859 Choice Brilliant Proof CH BR PF $1,900.00 - with a reverse that is essentially Gem in quality. Extremely boldly struck and exhibiting chrome-like reflectivity, this coin's obverse is rich yellow while the reverse boasts hints of rose. Small patches of hairlines in front of the Indian's headdress and below the bust are the result of a past attempt to remove planchet spots. 4010 1859 Snow 3. Repunched Date. Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $750.00 Straw gold and quite lustrous, this original and very well struck specimen is a wonderful survivor of the first year of the Indian Head issue. The repunching on the date is very strong on the '1', visible on the '8' and very slight on the '59'. That being said, this example is struck from the early obverse die state with the upper flag and lower serifs of the '1' plainly visible under...  more 4011 1859 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $400.00  Lustre is uncommonly bold on this yellow and straw gold toned specimen. Well struck and eye appealing, this coin is just a few surface marks from a much higher grade. 4012 1860 Rounded Bust. Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $1,300.00 Rich, antique gold surfaces host glittering, reflective fields and a crisp strike in the devices, legends and date. Hints of subtle sky blue complement this coin's bold overall appeal and desirability on this survivor of about 540 Proofs struck of this date. 4013 1860 Rounded Bust. Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $500.00  Deeper amber toning at the lower obverse and on the reverse complements rich yellow-gold lustre on both sides of this charming, original Copper-Nickel Cent. Well struck and very attractive, this lovely coin will find a welcome home in a well chosen Type or Date set. 4014 1860 Pointed Bust. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $300.00  Rich salmon toning emboldens pale straw gold lustre on both sides of this specimen of the very scarce Pointed Bust type. Snow estimates that only 1 in 20 or so 1860 Indian Cents is of this type. Examination under a loupe reveals some minor hairlines to left of the date. 4015 1861 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $2,200.00 Lovely iridescent rose, gold and olive toning bathe this coin's rich yellow-gold surfaces. Fields are boldly reflective, wholly encircling gently frosted devices on both sides. Here is a high quality survivor of about 1,000 Proofs struck of this date. 4016 1861 Superb Gem Brilliant Uncirculated SUP GEM BU $1,450.00 Bold mint frost scintillates in the light on this essentially flawless, yellow-tan specimen that has a layer of dusky toning on both sides. Strike is extremely bold and examination under magnification finds only a solitary carbon spot at lower left reverse. Here is undoubtedly one of the finest known survivors of this Civil War date. 4017 1862 Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $1,300.00  near-Superb. Subtle lavender and sky blue tones complement brighter yellow-gold toning on this boldly reflective coin. Lightly frosted devices give this very attractive specimen a gentle cameo appearance. A mere 550 Proofs were struck of this date. 4018 1862 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $250.00 - nearly Gem. Light peach and richer amber tones beautify this specimen's well struck, very lustrous surfaces. 4019 1863 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $800.00 Rich cameo contrast exists between well struck and frosted devices and mirror-like fields on both sides. Some burgundy toning streaks are noted on the reverse, and some minor carbon spots are all that keep this coin from a full Gem grade. 4020 1863 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $200.00 - with the eye appeal and lustre of a much higher grade. Intense mint lustre cartwheels in the light on this pale straw gold and salmon toned specimen. 4021 1864 Copper-Nickel. Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $1,800.00 Rich cameo contrast between splendid, frosted devices and deeply chrome-like fields creates this coin's bold eye appeal. A thin layer of amber-mauve toning in the fields augments the desirability of this survivor of just 370 Proofs coined of this type. 4022 1864 Copper-Nickel. Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $850.00 Flawless, yellow-gold surfaces are aglow in blazing mint lustre on both sides, with a subtle veneer of rich, amber toning that becomes visible when the coin is rotated in the light. This coin is boldly struck, with some definition visible even at the very tips of the Indian's feathers. Here is a splendidly high grade example of this final Copper-Nickel issue in the series. 4023 1864-L Snow 2. Repunched Date. Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $300.00 Purple-brown centers lighten to red-brown lustre towards the peripheries of both sides. Although not a particularly rare Repunched Date in the Indian Cent series, this variety is avidly collected for its utter boldness. Well struck and an appealing survivor of the variety. 4024 1864-L Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $400.00 - or finer. Exquisite, red and brown mint lustre is in perfect balance between the original mint color and the areas of browning. The dies are severely rotated from normal coin turn, with a difference of about 80 degrees. 4025 1864 Bronze. Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $1,100.00 - essentially Gem. Boldly struck devices and legends stand out boldly against watery, chrome-like fields that exhibit mottled iridescent toning on both sides. This mostly brown specimen retains a good deal of original mint color. Only about 300 Proofs were struck of this first year of Bronze issue. 4026 1864 Bronze. Snow 11. Lathe Lines. Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $160.00 - nearly Gem. Glittery mint lustre defines this well struck coin that boasts surfaces that are mostly mint red. The concentric lathe turn marks at the central obverse are quite visible but not as pronounced as would be with an early die state specimen. 4027 1865 Plain 5. Brilliant Proof BR PF $240.00 Pale salmon orange surfaces boast well struck devices and fields that exhibit hairlines consistent with the given grade. 4028 1865 Plain 5. Repunched 1. Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $200.00 Rich rose and deep amber lustre in the fields join browning high points on the obverse, while the red and brown reverse displays a remarkable diagonal woodgrain effect. Very minor repunching is noted above the main '1', this specific die variety not noted in Snow. 4029 1866 Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $600.00 A frosted Indian stands out boldly against watery, chrome-like fields to wonderful cameo effect on the mostly red obverse. The reverse, on the other hand, boasts an exquisite red and brown, woodgrain toning scheme. Here is one of just 725 or so Proofs struck of this date. 4030 1866 Snow 13. '866' in denticles. Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $500.00 Flawless, light chestnut brown surfaces are aglow in subtle original mint color in the fields of both sides. Well struck and rather attractive, this coin displays the tops of the digits '866' from a date logotype that was mistakenly punched too low and in the denticles. 4031 1867 Proof PF $240.00 Quite severely polished in the past, this coin is now bathed in lovely iridescent tones. Here is one of just 625 or so Proofs struck of this date. 4032 1867 Snow 5b. Repunched Date. Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $800.00 Richly glowing, golden red lustre defines this coin's well preserved surfaces. Design details and lettering are all well struck and defined. The surfaces are essentially free of any blemishes, spots or other marks, making this a very desirable specimen of this date and variety. 4033 1868 Rotated Dies. Choice Brilliant Proof CH BR PF $800.00 Lovely original rose and orange-red tones lie amidst brown, reflective surfaces on both sides of this well preserved Proof Indian Cent. Richard Snow's research indicates that 1868 Proof Cents with 170 degree rotated dies, like this one, were struck after some 1869 Proof Cents. 4034 1868 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $600.00 Blazing mint red lustre cartwheels on the surfaces of this blemish-free, well struck Cent. Although the year 1868 is quite available with brown or red-brown surfaces, such dazzling red specimens as this are very infrequently encountered. 4035 1869 Superb Gem Brilliant Proof SUP GEM BR PF $700.00 Amazingly fresh, red and brown surfaces are wholly free of blemishes, spots or other disfigurements. Frosted devices and legends stand out boldly against deeply chrome-like, sunset red surfaces that are toned in a beautiful woodgrain pattern. A more pleasing survivor of just 600 or so Proofs struck of this date would be difficult to locate. 4036 1869 Snow 9. Repunched Date. Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $800.00 - or finer. Exquisite, golden red lustre dominates the obverse and reverse of this very well preserved specimen, with hints of deeper rose at the obverse periphery and reverse center. The strike is bold on both sides, with only the usual, trivial softness noted at the tips of the Indian's feathers. Snow 9 exhibits rather strong doubling toward the south on all date digits in addition to the remnants...  more 4037 1869 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $600.00 Here is an original, problem-free specimen of this scarce 1860's date featuring lovely, red and brown lustre and a bold strike. 4038 1870 Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $950.00 Gently frosted devices and legends stand out against deeply mirrored fields on this mostly red and somewhat brown specimen.
