 1877 3¢ Nickel. Gem Brilliant Proof. Flawless silvery lustre saturates both sides of this meticulously struck coin. The planchet was evidently carefully selected and shows none of the problems of granularity noted by the later Walter Breen in his comments on this date. A forceful strike resulted in near-perfection of detail, even on the highest points. Only 510 pieces were struck of this Proof-only date, which has been in perpetual demand by type and date collectors since it was issued.
