 1877 25¢. Gem Brilliant Proof. The boldest mirror fields gleam under the clearest rose-gold and a hint of peripheral iridescent blue. This coin presents a thoroughly pleasing cameo effect of bold reliefs against colorfully toned mirror fields. This example has the added variety diagnostics of an obverse die showing the shield point between '1' and '8', the reverse bearing a slim die crack through 'QUAR'. One of 880 Proofs struck, and judging by Proof specialist Breen's description of the date, superior to most surviving examples.
