A hint of original, prooflike surfaces hug the peripheries and the legends and protected areas around the legends on this lustrous, orange-gold specimen. As the only Type 2 Gold Dollar emanating from the San Francisco mint, the 1856'S' is avidly sought by date as well as type and mint collectors. A mere 24,600 pieces were struck of this scarcity.
