1889 Closed 9. Choice Brilliant Proof
|
CH BR PF |
$850.00 |
Stark gleaming silver shows deep gold along obverse rim. This date shows the knob of the '9' firmly joined to the loop above it, a die that M.L. Biestle called his 2A. This distinctive obverse was dubbed an overdate 1888/9 by Abe Kosoff in 1944 and was described as such in auction catalogues until the 1970's. While a bold variety, it is no longer called an overdate. |
