1786 Vermont Copper. Landscape type. Ryder 6 (R-3). VERMONTENSIUM obverse spelling. 123.0 gns. Catalogued...
VERMONTENSIUM obverse spelling. 123.0 gns. Catalogued in our September 1977 sale as ''Struck slightly off-center to 9:00 affecting the tops of Vermontensium. Some planchet defects through 'ICA' and the date and correspondingly so through 'STELLA'. About Uncirculated with a faint trace of mint color in the sun. Even light chocolate toning.'' Today, we would feel more comfortable with...  more
131 1786 Vermont Copper. Landscape type. Ryder 7 (R-4) EF $3,250.00
1786 Vermont Copper. Landscape type. Ryder 7 (R-4). VERMONTENSIUM obverse spelling. 126.3 gns. Extremely...
VERMONTENSIUM obverse spelling. 126.3 gns. Extremely Fine. Choice and smooth, glossy honey brown surfaces are quite remarkable for the utter absence of planchet flaws. Usually, the landscape types are riddled with minor planchet striae or even disfiguring flaws as a result of poorly mixed planchet stock; the current specimen comes from a stock that would be expected of a well made...  more
132 1786 Vermont Copper. Landscape type. Ryder 8 (R-4) AU $8,000.00
1786 Vermont Copper. Landscape type. Ryder 8 (R-4). VERMONTENSIUM obverse spelling. 102.2 gns. About...
VERMONTENSIUM obverse spelling. 102.2 gns. About Uncirculated, and a simply remarkably example. Glossy and hard, deep chestnut brown surfaces boast hints of golden brown and ruddy tones in the fields. Strike is quite sharp, bring out the full details in the mountains, trees, sun face, date and lettering, with only some trifling weakness in the central All-Seeing Eye. A bit off-center...  more
133 1786 Vermont Copper. Landscape type. VERMONTENSIUM obverse spelling F $190.00

Ryder 8 (R-4). 120.4 gns. Fine. Dark brown and quite porous, although lacking the usual unsightly planchet flaws that plague this issue.
134 1787 Vermont Copper. BRITANNIA reverse. Ryder 13. Mailed Bust Right CH AU $9,500.00
1787 Vermont Copper. BRITANNIA reverse. Ryder 13. Mailed Bust Right. 110.5 gns. Choice About Uncirculated,...
110.5 gns. Choice About Uncirculated, nearly Uncirculated. Here is a simply amazing specimen of this dreadfully common die variety. Surfaces are a perfect deep mahogany brown with lighter golden highlights, probably the very faded remnants of original mint color. The surface quality is superior, displaying none of the usually encountered harsh planchet flaws or porosity; in fact, a couple spindly,...  more
135 1787 Vermont Copper. BRITANNIA reverse. Ryder 13. Mailed Bust Right VF $300.00

Very Fine. Pleasing, deep chocolate brown surfaces are devoid of the often harsh planchet flaws that plague this common, yet intriguing mule of a Vermont obverse with a fantastically dated, contemporary counterfeit Halfpenny reverse. PCGS VF20.
136 1787 Vermont Copper. Ryder 14. Mailed Bust Right VG to F $220.00

127.4 gns. Fine. Dark brown with lighter high points, a touch of porosity, and some very ancient fine scratches on both sides; 1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 54-k. Serpent Head. 144.2 gns. Very Good to Fine in terms of wear. Dark brown with lighter high points and some significant fine scratches at the obverse center. 2 pieces.
137 1788 Vermont Copper. Ryder 16. Mailed Bust Right AG $55.00

95.4 gns. About Good. Dark brown and porous.
138 1788 Vermont Copper. Ryder 24. Mailed Bust Right CH VF $620.00

121.6 gns. Choice Very Fine. Well detailed overall, with just the usual softness at the center of both obverse and reverse. Surfaces are a uniform dark brown, while the high points are worn to a light metallic olive-gray hue. Die break at chest is not yet fully extended into the obverse field.
139 1788 Vermont Copper. Ryder 25 (R-3+ for variety, R-5 as overstrike) AU $5,500.00
1788 Vermont Copper. Ryder 25 (R-3+ for variety, R-5 as overstrike). Mailed Bust Right. 123.1 gns....
Mailed Bust Right. 123.1 gns. About Uncirculated, or finer. Glossy, deep chestnut brown surfaces are supremely flaw-free and attractive, with lighter golden brown toning at the peripheries that is most probably the remnants of much faded original mint color. A glass finds two inconsequential spots on the obverse, one at and one below the shoulder plates. This coin displays a trifling amount...  more
140 1788 Vermont Copper. Ryder 31 (R-4+). GEORGIVS III REX obverse AB VF $1,900.00
1788 Vermont Copper. Ryder 31 (R-4+). GEORGIVS III REX obverse. Mailed Bust Right. 101.5 gns. About...
Mailed Bust Right. 101.5 gns. About Very Fine. Dark chestnut brown surfaces are of a pleasing hue and exhibit uniform light granularity on both sides. The high points of the devices and legends are a decidedly lighter brown hue. The obverse is on-center, with the sharp, triangular denticles providing a distinct frame; the reverse is a trifle off-center toward the 6:30 position, cutting...  more

141 1785 Connecticut Copper. Miller 2-A.1 (R-5+). Mailed Bust Right. Roman Head CH F $1,550.00
1785 Connecticut Copper. Miller 2-A.1 (R-5+). Mailed Bust Right. Roman Head. 119.6 gns. Choice Fine...
119.6 gns. Choice Fine or better for one of these. Surfaces are a glossy olive tan and are of a quality that is superior for this die variety. As will be plain the photos, there is some minor graininess on both sides; this is as much the result of the inherent roughness of the planchet as it is any physical change of the surfaces. Given the thinness of the planchet stock, there wasn't...  more

1785 Connecticut Copper. Miller 2-A.1 (R-5+). Mailed Bust Right. Roman Head. 152.8 gns. Fine. Dark...
152.8 gns. Fine. Dark brown surfaces are uniformly porous in the fields and noticeably smoother on the relatively well defined design motifs. The distinctive ''Roman Head'' is clear, while the reverse exhibits the usual weakness in the seated figure. The 2-A.1 is a very scarce variant of this popular head type. A splash of white ink on the obverse lead us to a very crude and smeared,...  more
143 Connecticut Coppers. 1785 Miller 4.4-C (R-3). Mailed Bust Right G to VG $130.00

Fine or so. Olive-brown high points contrast with darker chestnut fields that are lightly porous. Major planchet flaws are noted at lower obverse and upper reverse; 1787 Miller 31.1-r.4. Draped Bust Left. Good to Very Good. A mostly problem-free, chocolate brown coin; 1787 Draped Bust Left. Very Good. Surfaces are a bit rough, precluding die variety attribution. 3 pieces.
144 1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 33.6-KK. Draped Bust Left AU $875.00
1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 33.6-KK. Draped Bust Left. 142.6 gns. About Uncirculated or so from...
142.6 gns. About Uncirculated or so from a technical standpoint. One will be hard-pressed to find much actual wear on this coin. Rather, it exhibits some of the typical flatness of strike inherent in the Draped Bust Left series. The most weakness is at the obverse effigy's drapery and at the reverse female's head; but on the overall this specimen is actually quite well struck for one...  more

1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 33.13-Z.1 (R-6). Draped Bust Left. 144.9 gns. Fine. Light brown high...
144.9 gns. Fine. Light brown high points stand out against darker brown, lightly porous fields. Obverse is a trifle off-center toward the 7:00 position, while the reverse is a bit off to the 11:00 position. The die break around 'TO' of AUCTORI is in a more advanced state than in Perkins:372.
146 1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 33.37-Z.9 (R-5). CONNFC. Draped Bust Left F to VF $65.00

127.5 gns. Fine to Very Fine. Surfaces are a mostly even medium brown and exhibit uniformly granular surfaces. Two small patches of verdigris are noted on reverse.
147 1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 34-ff.1 (R-5). ET LIR. Draped Bust Left VF to EF $160.00

147.0 gns. Very Fine to Extremely Fine in terms of wear. Devices are strongly detailed despite some areas of porosity and minor planchet laminations on both sides. Well-centered, with no design elements or legends falling off the edge of the flan.
148 1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 37.8-LL (R-5-). Draped Bust Left F to VF $90.00

135.9 gns. Fine to Very Fine. Choice, deep tan-brown surfaces exhibit few circulation marks and just a minor area of planchet laminations. Obverse is slightly off-center toward the bottom. Mostly smooth and attractive, the reverse is weakly defined as usual for the variety.
149 1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 39.2-ee (R-5). AUCTOBI/ET LIR. Draped Bust Left VF $475.00

Very Fine. Golden brown and quite attractive on the overall, this specimen exhibits minor circulation marks and a touch of graininess in a few spots. The obverse features the legend variant AUCTOBI, while the reverse replaces ET LIB with ET LIR! Both sides are a trifle off-center, nipping off the tops of a few letters in the reverse legend. This coin is a trifle finer than the recently...  more
150 1788 Connecticut Copper. Miller 2-D. Mailed Bust Right CH VF $325.00

Choice Very Fine. Light salmon and olive tones grace this coins light brown surfaces. Well struck with clearly defined design motifs on both sides, this specimen exhibits only a few minor patches of roughness and a small edge bruise seen even through the encapsulation. A common variety but popular as a type coin as it is often available with clearly defined design elements, unlike so...  more

135.4 gns. Very Good to Fine. Here is a golden brown, perfectly smooth specimen that has some planchet laminations on the obverse. An appealing type coin. Reverse shield is smooth but devoid of detail, which is not unusual for the variety.
157 1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 37-X (R-7-). Late Rahway or Elizabethtown Mint CH $18,000.00
1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 37-X (R-7-). Late Rahway or Elizabethtown Mint. 143.8 gns. Fine, essentially...
143.8 gns. Fine, essentially Choice. Light golden brown surfaces are quite smooth on both sides, with only some minor, inherent planchet striae inhabiting the fields of both sides and a minor area of reddish deposit around the '17' of the date. The surfaces are quite superior for this rare variety. Struck a bit off-center toward the lower left on the obverse, bringing the die edge into...  more
158 1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 48-g. Rahway Mint CH F $260.00
