The reeding is complete and strong while the Eagle's head is weak which is common for this variety. A decent appearing example of this first year of this denomination. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $4,000.00 Smooth, flashing silver underlies dramatic steel and pervasive clear gold toning, accompanied by tantalizing undercurrents of clear red-rose. This distinctive variety shows '1' and '6' touching curl and truncation, while '25' and 'C' are free of arrows, tail and olive branch on this reverse. Small 0 AU $950.00 Strong About Uncirculated, nearly Choice. Actual wear is decidedly moderate, and substantial lustre hugs the reliefs, accentuating their bold visual qualities. 950 1835 Br.2 AU $550.00 About Uncirculated. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $1,100.00 A stunning iridesence highlights the superbly detailed obverse. The central reverse is silvery white with a ring of opaque gray near the border. 952 1845 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $1,600.00 Heavy lustre joins rich old-gold toning for bold appeal. This obverse is identified by fine die cracks linking the digits of the date and the stars. 953 1853 Arrows & Rays AU $200.00 About Uncirculated. Light wear leaves much silver mint frost with a wisp of palest gold. 954 1859'O' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $2,900.00 Strong silver lustre covers both sides of this charming pre-Civil War strike. All devices are sharply impressed and it is instructive to note that while just 20 pieces have been certified by PCGS, only one was graded Choice! PCGS MS63. 955 1861'S' AU $6,750.00 About Uncirculated. Boldly detailed devices, stars and lettering testify to a bold strike for this significant San Francisco rarity, not priced above About Uncirculated in the Guide Book. Only 96,000 were struck before the Confederacy seized the New Orleans Mint. As Breen noted, survivors are found ''usually in low grades,'' re-emphasizing the rarity of the present example. The obverse and reverse are nearly uniformly toned in pale gray and light rose with a touch of iridescent blue. The fields are deep mirrors and fully bright. The central devices are nicely frosted. The piece has a lovely look and great eye appeal. Only 550 Proofs were struck in this wartime era. 957 1876 Brilliant Proof BR PF $400.00 - with claims to Choice. Here is a thoroughly pleasing Centennial year Proof boasting flashing silver and satisfying peripheral gold. 958 1876 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $200.00 - or better in terms of visual appearance but closer inspection reveals signs of a deceptive cleaning. Rose-gold and electric blue toning over well struck surfaces. 959 1886 Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $850.00 Both obverse and reverse are sharply struck offering crisp details. The combination of gold and gray hues creates a scintillating visual effect. 960 1889 Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $1,900.00 The front of this piece is a gorgeous rich mauve with a touch of color on Liberty's head. The back is light gold on the rim, bright white in the center. The devices are nicely frosty and the fields show deep mirror brilliance. A small scuff in the left obverse field is noted. Only 711 Proofs were struck in this low business strike mintage year. 961 1891 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $170.00 Evenly struck, satin-like surfaces are highlighted by a pale blush of golden-gray toning. A nice, lustrous and pleasantly toned example of the first year of issue of the Barber type. 963 1895'S' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $1,700.00 Tawny old gold toning intensifies near the sharp outer rims on this wholly attractive silver-white example. 964 1897'O' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $13,000.00 Breath-takingly powerful reflective frosty silver centers are wreathed in a broad swath of coppery tobacco-gold for the most dramatic beauty. This amazing Gem would have to rank high in any Condition Census that might be worked up to chart the finest known examples of this elusive New Orleans date. 965 1898'O' Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $8,000.00 - only a whisper from fully Gem. This gleaming coin's lovely full cartwheel lustre sparkles at the centers, encircled by bands of the richest old gold for sharply contrasting beauty. There is a coin that personifies the description ''Deep Mirror Prooflike,'' with its incredible liquid-glass gleam enriched by lavish red-gold and fleck-ebony toning. 967 1900'S' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $1,800.00 - with claims to Gem.
