In fact, were it not for a trivial field mark or two, we would not hesitate in calling this lovely coin a full Gem. Gold and rose-mauve peripheral iridescence augments a warm, satiny underlying glow. 4357 1885'S' F $950.00 Fine. Balanced medium gray surfaces offer a very smooth appearance. There is an ancient, barely detectable hairline scratch beneath the toning at the lower left obverse, as well as a trivial reverse rim bruise at 11:45. All in all, however, the coin presented here is a highly agreeable, circulated example of this rare issue. After turning the coin over on its reverse however, the presence of an 'S' mintmark immediately dictates that closer scrutiny is required. Pale shades of lavender and gold embellish a full measure of underlying frosty mint bloom. There is only the slightest trace of high point friction detectable under very close examination with a glass. A very scarce date within the grade range offered here. 4362 1887 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $800.00 - and approaching a Gem distinction. There is a pleasant blush of pale violet-mauve toning that augments sharp, frosted devices and watery-mirrored fields. A total of 710 Proofs are reported to have been coined of this date. 4363 1887 Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $1,700.00 - despite a limited degree of peripheral striking softness on both the obverse and reverse. Velvet-silk surfaces are otherwise entirely appealing, and are completed by compelling shades of rose-red, gold, and emerald-blue iridescence emanating from the rims. A beauty! 4364 1887'S' Brilliant Uncirculated BU $160.00 Light lines are only visible with a glass beneath pale lavender-violet toning. We would otherwise not hesitiate in calling this glowing, satiny coin at least a Choice specimen. 4365 1888 Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $2,800.00 Here is a coin that simply exudes numismatic beauty! Unbroken velvet-like fields and devices are virtually free of any surface imperfections. The strike is entirely bold, and the coloration is superlative. Champagne, gold, and emerald iridescence completes this coin in a most enticing fashion. It would be extremely difficult to find a Dime of this date that outstrips the sheer visual...  more 4366 1888 Choice Brilliant Proof CH BR PF $600.00 Frosty legends and design elements attractively contrast against mirrored fields. Rings of lavender-blue and rose toning encircle pale golden centers. The reported Proof output for this date totals 832 pieces. 4367 1888'S' AU $141.00 About Uncirculated. A deep pearl-gray obverse offers subtle blue overtones. The reverse is toned a pale russet-gray, but reveals some light hairlines. 4368 1889 Doubled Die Reverse. Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $800.00 - virtually worthy of a full Gem designation. A warm, satiny glow is attractively completed by shades of rose-gold, emerald, and pale blue iridescent toning. A faint fingerprint is visible in the toning pattern at the right obverse. 4369 1889 Choice Brilliant Proof CH BR PF $500.00 Here is a cameo-mirror Proof that enjoys a radiant, delicate olive-golden appearance. One of 711 Proofs coined of this issue. 4370 1889'S' AU $100.00 A very strong About Uncirculated or better example. Traces of mauve-golden toning in the devices accent plenty of underlying mint frost. Scarce in this condition. 4371 1890 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $750.00 - despite some barely detectable disturbance in the upper reverse field. Cameo devices and premium quality liquid-mirror fields are handsomely embellished by mauve-gold and subtle lilac-blue iridescence. This issue enjoys the lowest reported Proof mintage (only 590 pieces) of any Liberty Seated Dime date struck after 1865. 4372 1890 Brilliant Proof BR PF $180.00 Noticeably hairlined fields still offer plenty of reflectivity, and are accented by peripheral russet-mauve toning. The legends and devices remain needle-sharp and frosty. 4373 1890'S' Large 'S' mintmark. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $900.00 - and approaching the Gem category. Sharp design features accompany rich velvet-silk mint lustre on either side. The obverse displays varying shades of pale golden toning highlighted by iridescent jade at the lower periphery. The reverse exhibits an ever so delicate blush of russet-gold. Despite its rather large mintage, this date is surprisingly difficult to acquire in the upper grade...  more 4374 1891 Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $1,500.00 This glowing example offers pale olive-green central obverse toning embellished by rose-mauve and golden peripheral iridescence. The reverse is awash in shades of sea-green, lilac, and golden iridescence. Frosty design features complete the visual allure of this outstanding coin. The underlying surfaces retain a full measure of mint frost. 4376 1891'O' Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $450.00 - and enjoying an abundance of icy mint frost on both the obverse and reverse. Vibrant centers are framed in russet-gold and delicate emerald iridescence at the peripheries. An uncommon date, particularly within the grade range offered here. A tiny raised die line protrudes from Liberty's shin on the obverse, just into the adjacent field. 4377 1891'S' Small 'S' mintmark. Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $1,100.00 There is a trivial obverse rim tic at 1:00 that hardly warrants mention. The surfaces on either side are otherwise wonderfully smooth, and are accompanied by a rather deep veil of olive-gold highlighted by traces of iridescent lilac.
