The surfaces are virtually devoid of any hairlines or other imperfections. One of only about 200 or so Proofs struck for this inaugural date. A totally original coin that is superior to most examples offered for sale. 3893 1866 Brilliant Uncirculated BU $160.00 A handsome coin with light golden toning over typically struck surfaces. Some die flow lines are visible on both sides as well as a few minor die cracks. Lightly cleaned long ago. 3894 1867 With Rays. Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $60,000.00 - essentially Superb. Dannreuther Die Pair 1-A. Fully mirrored, chromelike fields wholly encircle frosted central design motifs and legends for an outstanding cameo effect. Surfaces are absolutely blemish-free and are essentially untoned, with just a hint of golden-tan toning at the centers of each side. A nice example of the first issue of this series with rays on the reverse. 3896 1867 No Rays. Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $1,950.00 Light rose-gold toning on the obverse over delightful, deeply reflective fields. The devices are frosted, giving this coin an exceptional look. This coin, from an original mintage of only about 600 or so Proofs, is truly remarkable in appearance and should command a strong premium. 3897 1868 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $400.00 An attractive coin with nice cameo contrast on both sides. Toned in pale silver and gray, this well struck Proof should endear itself quite nicely to its new owner. 3898 1868 Choice Brilliant Proof CH BR PF $950.00 - with the appearance of a higher grade. Deep cameo effect gives this coin nice appeal. A few reverse hairlines are visible with magnification. Very well struck. 3899 1869 Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $600.00 Pale golden toning over boldly struck surfaces. The fields are mostly brilliant with the devices showing a bit of frost. This lovely original coin is sure to please even the most astute collector of this series. The strike is sharp and the color is a pale silver and gray. Here is a worthwhile example that should be closely inspected. 3901 1871 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $600.00 Nice contrasting fields and devices gives this coin wonderful eye appeal. The surfaces shimmer with the devices giving a nice contrast. The coin exhibits some lemon-gold toning on the reverse. There are some moderate hairlines that are commensurate with the given grade and do not detract that much from the beauty of this rare date with only about 510 Proofs struck. 3909 1878 Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $1,500.00 A meticulous strike over wonderfully reflective fields gives this coin a marvelous look. The coin has some very light toning that adds further to the eye appeal. A great example of this Proof-only issue that will be sure to please its new owner. 3910 1879/8 Gem Brilliant Proof GEM BR PF $950.00 An amazing example with a strong strike and marvelous two-tone cameo effect. The coin has very little toning but is enhanced by the freshness and flawlessness of the deep watery fields. A strong strike adds further to this coin's bold appeal.
