Printed in brown on much thinner, off-white ''leather'' like parchment than lot 1230 previously. The note surfaces are much smoother to the point of being ''slick''. The brown printing first used in 1842 according to the Zander monograph. 52mm by 41mm. Upper two corners pierced as issued; widely spaced as shown in Zander Fig.17. The common face (as catalogued in the Clifford Sale) with a company seal using a double...  more

Russian-American Company. 25 Kopeck. Printed in black on thick, off-white parchment with very minor...
Printed in black on thick, off-white parchment with very minor surface granularity. Very rich, creamy surfaces as properly diagnostic for this type in high grades and catalogued as such in Zander. The surfaces are essentially very smooth on both sides. 65mm by 56mm. The four corners are neatly and evenly clipped off as properly issued. This allowed the basically illiterate native population to identify the note compared to a 50 Kopeck (that had two corners clipped)...  more

Printed in black on thick, off-white parchment very minor surface granularity. Creamy white texture and a most natural appearance as proper. Like the 25 Kopeck previously (lot 1232) from the Boyd Collection, the surfaces are essentially very smooth on both sides. 64mm by 62mm. The top two corners are neatly and evenly clipped off as issued. As stated above, this allowed the basically illiterate native population to identify the note compared to...  more

Russian-American Company. 1 Rouble. Printed in aqua-green on thick, off-white parchment type medium...
Printed in aqua-green on thick, off-white parchment type medium with very minor surface granularity. Like the 25 Kopeck and 50 Kopeck notes above, the surfaces are essentially very smooth on both sides. 60mm by 47mm. The size is similar to the 10 Kopeck notes, but with no holes in the upper corners. The lack of holes would differentiate the higher denomination note for the basically illiterate native population and helped...  more

Printed in black on thin, ''mustard'' yellow parchment (''canary'' as quoted once in a letter from Mr. Ford to Hank Clifford) with very minor surface granularity. Like the 25 Kopeck, 50 Kopeck and 1 Rouble notes above, the surfaces are essentially very smooth on both sides. 62mm by 47mm. The size is similar to the 10 Kopeck notes, but with no holes in the upper corners. The lack of holes would differentiate the higher denomination...  more
