1859'O' WB.101. Normal Date. Superb Gem Brilliant Uncirculated. This coin is simply amazing. The surfaces approach perfection in every way, the striking detail is nearly perfect, and the lustre is undisturbed. Not only is this the finest 1859'O' graded by the two major grading services, it is the only New Orleans No Motto Half Dollar to be graded this high by PCGS. Only a handful of Philadelphia coins have merited a grade this high.
Taking some time to study this coin leaves us in awe. How could any coin from this period survive so pristine, so nearly perfect? It must have been set aside from the moment it was coined in some protective holder, where it survived war after war, owner after successive owner, to come down to us today, virtually unchanged from the day it was coined. A coin for the ages, and certainly one of the very finest to exist of Seated Liberty Half Dollar series, and without a doubt the Finest Known of this otherwise plentiful date. A prize for the specialist. PCGS MS67.
