One of apparently 4 known BR PF $47,500.00 An amazing coin that is desirable in any grade. The No Drapery is difficult to obtain even in Mint State. In Proof format as seen here, this issue is legendary. The new Seated Liberty designs were first issued on the Half Dimes and Dimes in 1837, followed by the Quarters in 1838 and finally the Half Dollars in 1839. The Seated Silver Dollars were first struck in 1836, but the reverse design...  more 1114 1839 Wiley Bugert 102. With Drapery. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $800.00 A frosty white coin that shows an excellent strike on all the devices, including the obverse stars, Liberty's head and curls, even the reverse which clearly defines the eagle's talons. Scattered handling marks in the fields and attractive. Identifiable by a thin bagmark left of Liberty's shoulder in the field. 1115 1839 WB.102. With Drapery. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $850.00 - or a bit better. Bathed in frosty lustre and quite attractive for the delicate gold and blue peripheral toning. The strike is sharp on the stars and Liberty, even the eagle displays fine feather definition. One long bagmark in the right obverse field limits the grade, but fails to diminish the eye appeal of this lustrous coin. 1116 1840 Brilliant Proof. Small Letters BR PF $5,000.00 This one has a touch of wear on Liberty's breast and her leg, and the fields show moderate hairlines. Bright steel-gray in color with a scattering of tiny gold flecks on the obverse. Identifiable by a cluster of handling marks located above 'LF' of HALF. Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $1,100.00 A delightful coin for the strong lustre and clean surfaces. Mostly white in color although framed with delicate gold near the rims. The strike is bold throughout and the rims are clean. Identifiable by a tiny tick on Liberty's jaw, another on her left hand, and the reverse has a single diagonal bagmark behind the eagle's head. Examination will find hints of circular die polishing lines...  more 1118 1840'O'. WB.102. Very Small 'O'. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $1,100.00 A conditionally challenging coin to find so well preserved. The present example is generally white in color with a hint of peripheral gold. The strike is decent for this Mint, and the surfaces retain lustre. Scattered handling marks on both sides, and identifiable by a short dull scratch up from the top left of the 'L' of DOL nearly to the claw above and by a minor planchet streak left...  more 1119 1841 WB.102. Repunched '18' at Base. Brilliant Proof BR PF $7,000.00 An attractive coin for the green and gold toning near the rims, with frosty silver to the centers. A few hairlines are present which are the norm for Proofs of this period. Another appealing coin for the collector who demands rarity and Proof quality. Repunched '18' at Base EF $220.00 Detail of Extremely Fine or better, but harshly cleaned with an abrasive. The surfaces have myriad hairlines from the cleaning and remain generally bright. Hints of gold are starting to return, and this one will benefit from additional color. This is the scarcer of two varieties for the year. 1121 1841'O' WB.101. Large 'O'. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $700.00 - with claims to the choice category. A sharply struck coin that retains most of the original lustre. The obverse die was probably lapped as the first couple of stars on the obverse are shallow, along with Liberty's left foot. The reverse die shows greater depth and encircling cracks through the legend. Minor handling marks are noted, none of which are particularly distracting to the astute...  more 1122 1842 WB.102. Small Date, Large Letters. Cud over 'TAT' of STATES BU $1,500.00 Brilliant Uncirculated, virtually choice. Excellent lustre in the fields and retaining much of the original mint bloom. Bright silver dominates the surfaces with a ring of gold near the rims. Minor handling marks in the fields but none are individually problematic. Sharply struck except for portions of Liberty's chest and the opposing eagle's claws and arrows, which lack full definition....  more 1123 1842'O' WB.101. Small Date, Small Letters AU $10,000.00 About Uncirculated and revealing evidence of an ancient cleaning in the fields. Now deeply toned with dark peripheral blue and golden-russet to the centers, matched on both sides. This toning is typical from coins stored in albums for decades. Medium silver with some lustre in the protected areas. A hint of gold is found around the edge. The strike is sharp and the surfaces and rims are attractive for the grade. 1126 1843 Very Choice Brilliant Proof VERY CH BR PF $19,000.00 - with claims to Gem. The toning is rather deep and iridescent on this rare coin, and the surfaces are of excellent quality. Colors range from blue and russet, with tinges of green intermixed, with the toning irregular on the obverse, more organized on the reverse. Normal Date CH AU $240.00 Choice About Uncirculated, but lightly cleaned. A satiny coin that retains mint lustre in the protected areas but shows moderate to light hairlines in the fields. Toning with russet-gold on the lower obverse and around the rim of the reverse. Boldly struck throughout and a desirable coin for the surfaces and overall appeal. 1128 1843'O' WB.101. Normal Date. Gem Brilliant Uncirculated GEM BU $8,500.00 Sharply struck on all but a couple of the upper right obverse stars and exceptional for this date and mint. The surfaces are a delight to study, with scarcely a nick or mark present. Frosty lustre throughout, and toned with rich golden-russet hues over the entire surface with a touch of gunmetal blue on the lower reverse lettering and rim, and specks of russet on the upper right reverse....  more 1129 1843'O' WB.101. Normal Date. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $475.00 - with claims to Choice. There is subtle doubling of the mintmark to the West, but this does not match that of the WB.102 variety, which shows the mintmark doubled to the South. The reverse die shows traces of die rust on most of the devices, and there is a lumpy die crack connecting the 'DO' of DOL. Sharply struck and attractive for the silver-steel color, with some lustre remaining....  more 1130 1844 '18' Repunched South. Brilliant Proof BR PF $4,250.00 - and approaching Choice. The repunching is faint and does not match any reported in the Wiley-Bugert reference. There is a distinct thin line below the post of the '1' and a clear arc to the left of the lower loop of the 8. Perhaps this obverse die was lapped, removing the repunching prior to coining circulation strikes, if the obverse die was used at all after coining Proofs. A reflective...  more 1131 1844 Not in WB. Mispunched '8' in Denticles. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $800.00 - with claims to Choice. Delicate russet-gold over the surfaces and boldly struck throughout. There are two separate distinct loops from a mispunched '8' in the denticles below that digit and slightly to the right. This variety has been reported by the Liberty Seated Collectors Club and the January 2004 Census noted that 8 examples were known at that time, one being Mint State (aside from...  more 1132 1844'O' WB.101. Normal Date. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $1,500.00 - and virtually Choice. Satiny lustre throughout and boldly struck by the dies. The surfaces have faint hairlines and tiny ticks, but are much nicer than often encountered. Although a common variety, the present coin boasts good eye appeal. Toned with a touch of gold near the rims, and satiny silver-gray elsewhere. The vertical shield lines extend well into the horizontal lines, and below...  more 1133 1844'O' WB.101. Normal Date CH AU $325.00 Choice About Uncirculated. A sharply struck coin that is steel-gray with a hint of gold. The obverse die was lapped, weakening Liberty's left foot and the base below. Extensive thin peripheral die cracks on the reverse, and one jagged crack on the obverse connects the rim to the rock. 1134 1845 WB.101. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $800.00 - with claims to Choice. The obverse is essentially Choice save for faint hairlines to the right of the date. Bright and reflective with a touch of gold around the rims. On this obverse die the digits '84' appear to touch and there are die lines near the pole. Sharply struck from an early die state with thick devices. An impressive example of this date. 1135 1845'O' WB.101. No Drapery. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $2,400.00 - or better. A lovely coin that boasts rich blue and russet toning on both sides, attractive although slightly mottled. The strike is sharp throughout, and no weakness of consequence is found. There are minor hairlines in the fields which are old and toned over. Another coin for the collector who appreciates toning and a sharp strike. 1136 1846/5 'Overdate' WB.102. Medium Date. Errant 6. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $2,000.00 - and bordering on the Choice category. Reflective fields show areas of lighter silver, but the coin is generally medium gold in color with a dash of blue. Boldly struck throughout, and a slightly later die state of this obverse with a thin die crack through the base of the '46' and the die may have been lapped. The obverse fields show trivial handling marks and the coin is identifiable...  more 1137 1846 WB.101. Medium Date. Brilliant Proof BR PF $3,500.00 Razor-sharp definition on the devices and the fields are reflective as expected for a Proof issue. However, there are traces of porosity around the rims where something disturbed the surfaces. This does not affect the devices or fields beyond the denticles, so most of the eye appeal and surface quality is intact. Possibly Unique as Proof CH BR PF $28,000.00 This coin has gorgeous old toning on both sides which ranges from dusky gray with sunset russet hues in the fields to deeper gunmetal blue surrounding the rims and devices. The colors are well balanced and matched. Examination will discover the deep watery fields and frosted devices, with striking characteristics and details found only on Proofs. The other known Proofs of this date all show...  more 1139 1846 WB.106. Large, Normal Date. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $600.00 A sparkling and bright coin that retains abundant lustre and delicate gold toning near the rims. The surfaces show a few trivial handling marks, none of which warrants description. Boldly struck and attractive for this issue. This is the most common variety grouping for the date. 1140 1846 '6' Over Horizontal '6'. WB.104 CH AU $2,600.00 Choice About Uncirculated. An outstanding and lovely coin that is bathed in gorgeous old sea green, russet and blue toning. The strike is quite sharp and the underlying sideways '6' is clearly evident. As usual, this is a later die state with small rim breaks below the date and another above 'UNIT' on the reverse. Excellent surfaces for this ever popular issue, with no distracting cuts...  more 1141 1846'O' WB.103. Medium Date. Repunched '18' and '6' VERY CH BU $2,800.00 Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated. Likely the Finest Known. The '18' each show minor repunching low, while the '6' shows repunching low on the upper curve to the serif. Fully struck throughout, a feature seldom seen from the New Orleans Mint of the period, with no signs of weakness on the claws or thighs of the eagle, and Liberty's curls are bold on her head. Toned with deep gunmetal...  more 1142 1846'O' WB.101. Medium Date. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $380.00 White in color and slightly reflective. The surfaces have some cloudy areas from a long ago cleaning, and there is now a trace of russet specks on the lower reverse.
