1850 Breen 5442. Closed '5'. Brilliant Uncirculated or finer. A narrow outer band of iridescent silver and blue surrounds this coin's pleasing rose centers, the reverse being especially richly toned. Breen described this Closed '5' variety as unarguably rare, and speculated that most of the 7,500 business strikes produced were melted rather than released to circulation. NGC MS61.
