1865 Choice Brilliant Proof. A lovely specimen of the popular, Civil War date. Only 500 were struck in the last year of regular issue of the denomination before the type change in 1866. This piece is nearly uniformly toned in pale silver and steel on both sides. The fields are bright, mirror-like, and have lovely watery brilliance. The central design details are sharply struck. Liberty's figure on the obverse still shows attractive Mint frost.
