- or somewhat finer. Pearl gray toning is made more vibrant by underlying delicate rose-gold. The strike is pleasing with a wisp of softness on Liberty's face as is so often seen. NGC MS61. |

1850'O'

CH AU |
$4,500.00 |
Choice About Uncirculated, nearly Mint State. Here is a pleasing example of a scarce New Orleans date with lustre surrounding the reliefs, very moderate circulation can be found on the high points. Examination reveals scattered light bagmarks in the fields which have only limited effect on the overall appeal. This lower-mintage date was not saved by the nation's pioneer collectors, who... more |

CH BR PF |
$2,600.00 |
Here is a gleaming, steely example of 800 Proofs struck. Splendid detail adds to the appeal of subtle rose on the bold devices. This reverse strongly suggests an even higher grade with its especially vivid visual quality. PCGS PR63. |

1860 Gem Brilliant Uncirculated
|
GEM BU |
$16,000.00 |
A strike of medallic perfection gives this dramatic Gem extraordinary detail laved in pleasing tawny gold that deepens in the stars and legend. Liberty's facial features are meticulously defined, as are the individual feathers on the eagle. This Silver Dollar struck on the eve of the Civil War is exceptionally elusive in Mint State, and in this high level positively rare. The NGC Census... more |

1865 Choice Brilliant Proof

CH BR PF |
$1,600.00 |
A lovely specimen of the popular, Civil War date. Only 500 were struck in the last year of regular issue of the denomination before the type change in 1866. This piece is nearly uniformly toned in pale silver and steel on both sides. The fields are bright, mirror-like, and have lovely watery brilliance. The central design details are sharply struck. Liberty's figure on the obverse still... more |

1866 With Motto. Brilliant Proof

- on the cusp of fully Choice. A magnificent strike is complemented by blue-gray outlining meticulous devices, stars and lettering, amplified by diffuse rose in the glass-smooth fields for total visual satisfaction for even the most demanding specialist. PCGS PR62. |

1870 Choice Brilliant Uncirculated
|
CH BU |
$1,900.00 |
Pale gold and gray with a hint of iridescence. The reverse strike is a bit weak in places but overall the coin gives a very nice appearance and should be considered by either the date or type collector. |

1870 Brilliant Uncirculated
|
BU |
$500.00 |
Close to Choice save for some obverse hairlines. Pale silver white in the centers, light russet and champagne around the rims. Attractive mint lustre can be seen in the reverse fields and the protected areas of the front. Well struck on Liberty's shield and the eagle's leg feathers. A tough date to find in better than About Uncirculated. |

1872 Brilliant Proof
|
BR PF |
$2,200.00 |
- perhaps a bit better. The obverse and reverse fields have somewhat subdued Proof flash. The strike is Proof sharp and the piece has a pleasing matte-like appearance that is unusual. There is a toning arc above Liberty's head from storage in a classic Wayte Raymond holder. Only 950 Proofs were struck. |
