1794 Overton 101a (R-3). Choice Very Good. First year of issue of the Half Dollar denomination. Two-year only type. Both sides of this scarce date are deeply toned in rich silver gray. The obverse has iridescent gold around the rim while the back is toned in places at the rim in pale green. The centers are essentially untoned, being a nice medium coin silver gray in color. There are some signs of an ancient cleaning but the coin is smooth, balanced, and still quite appealing.
