 1889 Superb Gem Brilliant Proof. Jewel-fine clear blue-green toning is especially vivid on this rose-haloed obverse, edged in pale orange-gold at the denticles and rim. The reverse offering slightly subdued yet tantalizing blue-green toning with bolder orange-gold forming a halo around the periphery. One of 711 Proofs struck, of which substantially fewer examples are available today. Research and population reports attest that this Proof date is a positive rarity in the present coin's extraordinary state of preservation. This coin is the only specimen to have received the designation of NGC PF68*.
