Pennsylvania. April 29, 1780. Five Shillings. No.1279[?]. Two signatures: Boehm and Cather[?, faint]. Island Money Issue. Fine to Very Fine, and nearly the latter. Even circulation with cross creases, a corner fold and handling. Very clean and a tough series of notes that is not priced in the Newman 4th Edition. A clean note that we have not handled in any recent sale. A ''sleeper'' for the specialist.
Ex Wayte Raymond Sale Part 4 (NASCA, December 6-8, 1978, lot 1272).
The ''Island'' referred to is Province Island in Kingessing. This was a 5% interest bearing note with 100,000 Pounds authorized. The purpose, like so many of the late series Colonial notes, was to raise further money for the Army.
