North Carolina. April 4, 1748 Act. Three Pounds. No.498. Four signatures. Fort Johnson and Union Jack vignette. Fine or better. Backed to a contemporary card with one endorsement. The vertical split is concealed by the card backing. The face printing is razor sharp and vivid. Most of the left end indent is present. The corners are slightly rounded, but two plate lines are still present from the printing process. On eye appeal, much superior to both Ford Collection notes (Part III, lot 784 and Sale VIII, lot 1557). Very few fully intact notes exist and this note was estimated at '' $500 and up'' in the 1975 Morton Sale by Pine Tree. A great motif and handsome note.
Ex Bridgeton Collection Sale (Bowers & Ruddy Galleries, December 1-3, 1980, lot 12); Elizabeth Morton Collection (Pine Tree Auction Galleries, October 18, 1975, lot 234).
