1797 B.1, BB.73. 9 X 7 Stars, Large Letters. Double Struck Reverse. Choice Very Fine. Attractive light gold and gray toning throughout and well struck. As the obverse was the anvil or lower die, this coin must not have ejected properly or was misstruck. The coin was placed on the obverse die and struck again, with the reverse die showing distinctive doubling on all the lettering, devices and dentils. The shift is enough to see, but not very dramatic. A few trivial rim nicks are visible with a loupe, and the surfaces are pleasing. Several double struck examples are known from this year, much to the delight of collectors.
