1839'D' Extremely Fine. This wide-rimmed obverse shows the Dahlonega mintmark resting atop the 3, the crudely doubled 9 firmly touches the lowest curl. What was once thought to be a 9/8 overdate researchers now call a blundered 9 rather, but the overdate designation lives on among many collectors. This remarkable specimen is delightfully free of the serious abrasions and marks that normally afflict even higher grade examples of this Branch Mint date. Here is a truly outstanding example which will repay the most careful study and consideration.
