 1874 Gem Brilliant Proof. Brilliant, original surfaces are vibrant and clean. No fly specks are present, and the devices show ample frost to create the desired cameo effect, particularly on the obverse. No hairlines of any consequence are found, and this is a coin which would be hard to improve. Proofs issued for the year fell in number to 700 pieces as the United States economy slowed greatly for a few years in this period. Certainly one of the finer examples to come down to us today.
