1867 No Rays. Choice Brilliant Proof. Light steel-gray in color and still attractive despite scattered hairlines from an old wiping. A couple of pin-prick sized specks are found if studied with a strong loupe. The strike is full and complete, and this Proof should suit most collectors who appreciate the rarity of this first year of issue type coin that now lacks the rays around the denomination. This was the adopted style by the time Proofs were coined in 1867, although a handful of clandestine issues were struck in Proof with Rays as had been the design in 1866 and into January of 1867. A date and issue that has long been popular.
