1815/2 O.101. Choice About Uncirculated, on the threshold of full Mint State. Handsome pearl-gray toning exhibits a fascinating undercurrent of pure rose. The fields show traces of intriguing die clash for added visual interest, with an as-made rim defect over 'AT' of STATES. Here is a wholly satisfying example of a classic key date to the Capped Bust series, that has some very subtle hairlines under the toning. Dies of 1812 were brought from storage, re-dated and a limited number of coins struck after the political and military crises of the War of 1812. All were delivered on Jan. 10, 1816, just before the burning of the Philadelphia Mint halted production.
