 1898 Gem Brilliant Proof. A gorgeous two-tone cameo Proof with toning and eye appeal to match the 1897 in the preceding lot. These lovely coins were all carefully preserved from the time they were purchased. That explains their lovely, near pristine current state of preservation. This piece has the typical football shaped toning on the front in shades of deep iridescent blue and gold. The reverse is similarly toned on the rim while the center is bright. The central devices are all frosty and appealing. The fields are deep mirrors with full glass and bright flash. Only 735 Proofs were struck.
