 1873 Choice Brilliant Proof, with some claims to full Gem status. The piece is mostly bright white save for some russet toning most evident on the reverse. The fields have somewhat subdued brilliance but there is muted flash visible in the finer design details on each side. First year of issue of the new denomination, one of only 865 Proofs struck.
