1801 Tar.24, Br.1-A (R-5). Brilliant Uncirculated. Marvelous yellow-gold lustre borders on orange on this lightly hairlined example which radiates beauty with its distinctly prooflike fields. Strike is as bold as the Mint could bring about, some minor adjustment marks weakening only the top-centermost stars above the meticulous eagle on the reverse. The rims are wholly free of bumps and bruises, a rare occurrence on these heavy, thin coins that were easily damaged because of their soft metal. Here is a coin with the eye appeal of Choice but possessing the surface marks arguing classification as basic Mint State.
