1800 Tar.23. Br.1-A. Brilliant Uncirculated and boasting considerable prooflike surface, especially on the obverse. The reverse is mostly frosty, and both faces are a deep orange-gold in hue. As is characteristic to the series, the reverse is slightly finer, as the high relief obverse design bore the brunt of loose jingling with other coins. Very well struck, with even the eagle's neck feathers individually defined. Die states are quite late, given the advanced die crack connecting the tops of LIBERTY and the small rim break around obverse stars 10 and 11. There is also a small planchet flaw in that area that comes into view under a loupe.
Ex Stack's Auction, January 1986, lot 181; earlier ex Alto Collection (Stack's, December 1970, lot 325).
