The top serif of the '1' shows clearly through the top loop of the '4' on this bold overdate. Bright lustre covers both sides, a glass finds a concentrated patch of polish behind Liberty's head. Simply stated, this open-collar date is rare from any perspective with only 2,600 struck. The overall strike is quite bold, although the eagle's left leg is typically a trifle weak as Breen pointed out in describing this date. He could trace only four separate examples, though Garrett-Dannreuther show only 27 auction appearances of 1824/1, only five of these in any Uncirculated grade.
