1805 Br.1. Brilliant Uncirculated. Here is a glittering example of the sole variety of this decidedly rare year, characterized by a distinctive obverse with stars arranged 7x6. One of only 1,781 struck. All stars, Liberty's turban-like cap and hair, eagle's feathers and talons are very crisply detailed, as is the beaded outer border on either side. Careful study under a glass reveals subtle traces of a cleaning long ago, a trivial hairline or two noted for accuracy. The Garrett-Dannreuther auction study shows 42 appearances of this date in all grades over a 10-year period, but there were only four of these representing all Mint State grades.
