North Carolina. November 27, 1729 Act. Forty Shillings. No.1277. Signed by J.(ohn) Lovick, Cullen Pollack, (William) Downing, E.(dward) Mosely, and Tho.(mas) Swann. Printed on laid paper. 95mm by 146mm. According to Mr. Ford's notes, fully genuine. All handwritten bill, with flourished ink indent (space between) at the top and octagonal white paper on wax seal at the bottom center. Denomination in two places and signature placement consistent. There is an additional red wax seal at the upper right. This note may or may not be genuine and bears some scrutiny in our opinion. The signature work appears a little ''amateurish'' compared to the serial No.459 note. Also, this note compares favorably with the known counterfeit in this collection. However, it is not endorsed counterfeit on the face as is often the case. Good or so. The note has a small chunk off the lower left signature leaving just a few letters of ''Swann''. A long split at the right center and several smaller splits. Aged and foxed with a back pen endorsement. Overall, quite decent looking for the technical grade.
