 DANISH WEST INDIES. Christian IX, 1863-1906. Police Chief Badge. Silver, 35.32 grams (545 grains). Oval, 80 x 57mm. Integral loop. At the center, a large crowned CIX monogram, flanked by an engraved 'F' (diagonally scored) and 'D' (cross-hatched). The 'F' has been engraved over a 'C', more likely as a correction of an engraving error as opposed to reusage. Below the monogram, Politie Tegn has been engraved in neat script. On the backside, anniversary dates have been shallow and rustically engraved in two lines: 22 -?- 1868/skorner (?) 15th -?- 1878. Only two DWI police badges are known from Christian IX, and this is the only one known of a Police Chief. Single silver mounting ''washer'' missing from backside. Well-preserved and lightly toned.
