Kagin 2 (R-4). Long Arrows EF $6,000.00 Extremely Fine or better. A vividly detailed strike can be seen in the fine points of the coronet and its inscription. The high relief of the obverse assures less dramatic reverse relief. A few light marks testify that the respected Kellogg coins saw extensive circulation in the overheated economy of booming Gold Rush California and the American West. Central America (see below) $260.00 This pinch weighs a total of one gram and is encapsulated in a PCGS holder attesting to its weight and pedigree. 994 Five small gold nuggets from the 1857 wreck of the S.S. Central America (see below) $150.00 These small nuggets are encapsulated in a PCGS holder indicating the total weight (1.5 grams) and the pedigree. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $260.00 Here is a prooflike example of the lantern-jawed ''Goofy Head'' by an unknown maker. Die State III shows an advanced cud over half of the right wreath. 996 1872 25¢. Octagonal. B-G 791 (R-3). Indian Head. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $300.00 - or finer. Frosty yellow-gold, a lamination running below the date is the only detraction. 997 1880/70 25¢. Octagonal. B-G 799I (R-6). Indian Head. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $850.00 Beautiful lemon-gold lustre defines this coin, while the lower half of the obverse ranges from lemon gold to salmon from top to bottom. Well struck and exhibiting prooflike surfaces, this rare Mohrig issue also displays its overdate quite vividly. 998 1870-G 25¢. Round. B-G 835. Liberty Head. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $170.00 Lustrous yellow-gold surfaces displays areas of deeper amber-gold toning. A few obverse hairlines are all that keep this from a higher grade. 999 1871-G 25¢. Round. B-G 838. Liberty Head. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $180.00 - virtually Choice. Usual shallow strike and beautiful yellow and orange-gold tones define this marvelous little jewel. This reverse die was used in many combinations, and this die variety comes in two states; the current piece is State II, which is the polished and cracked state. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $280.00 - and with the vivid appeal of a much higher grade. Chrome-like, fully reflective green-gold fields surround lightly frosted yellow-gold devices for an outstanding cameo appearance. The reverse used is that of B-G 835, but it is now badly cracked all around the peripheries as well as in the centers. 1001 1872/1 25¢. Round. B-G 869 (R-4). Indian Head. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $240.00 - virtually Choice. Deep wheat gold surfaces are illuminated by richly prooflike fields and frosty yellow devices. Here is a specimen of this scarce Mohrig issue featuring a small planchet lamination across the lower obverse and a thin struck through thread area in front of the Indian's face. 1002 1876 25¢. Round. B-G 880 (R-6-). Indian Head. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $575.00 Fully prooflike fields frame frosted central design motifs on this rare Mohrig issue featuring no ''CAL'' in the reverse legends. Dies are rotated about 90 degrees out of perfect coin turn. Areas around the denomination on the reverse exhibit evidence of having been struck through thread or some other foreign substance. Boldly struck and attractively toned in rich yellow-gold, this specimen exhibits abundant appeal for this rare issue. A tiny ding should be noted to the left of the '1' on the reverse, although this is so small as to not affect the overall desirability of this sought-after variety. 1004 1870-G 50¢. Octagonal. B-G 922 (R-3). Liberty Head CH AU $160.00 Choice About Uncirculated. Handsome Liberty, slanting date, weakly impressed CAL distinguish this yellow-gold example. 1005 1871-G 50¢. Octagonal. B-G 924. Liberty Head. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $210.00 Marvelous prooflike brilliance shows a few hairlines under magnification. 1006 1865 50¢. Round. B-G 1005 (R-5-). Liberty Head. Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated VERY CH BU $325.00 Wonderfully prooflike, rich wheat gold fields surround gently frosted and generally well struck devices. Struck from a very early state of the obverse die exhibiting many fine die lines and just a very thin version of the later very thick die crack connecting the upper stars. 1007 1871 50¢. Round. B-G 1011. Liberty Head. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $100.00 Glossy olive-gold surfaces and a wafter thin planchet define this issue of California small gold. 1008 1875/3 50¢. Round. B-G 1058. Indian Head. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $375.00 - or finer. Richly frosted, yellow-gold devices stand out proudly against chrome-like fields on this overdated variety. Attractive, and a good representative of this B-G variety. 1009 ''1858'' 50¢. Round. B-G 1323 (Probable R-8). Liberty Head. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated CH BU $110.00 Crudely engraved Liberty, odd denomination ½/ 1858/ DOL in wreath by unknown maker, believed by Kenneth Lee to have been made about 1958 but still a fascinating relative of the series. 1010 Louisiana Purchase Exposition. 1904 Louisiana Gold 1/2 BU $950.00 (2); Lewis & Clark Exposition. 1905 Oregon Gold ½, ¼. Brilliant Uncirculated. The first two struck for Farran Zerbe with typical peripheral weakness, the companions show red-gold lustre around Mount Hood. 4 pieces. Brilliant Proof BR PF $450.00 The Quarter, Dime and Nickel are fully reflective and problem-free. The Half Dollar has mirror-like surfaces but is lightly hairlined.
