Lot # Description Grade Hammer Price 1973 1813 O.110 CH EF $240.00 Choice Extremely Fine. Pleasing natural toning with hints of light blue and coppery-gold. Struck by extensively clashed dies. 1974 1814 O.104a EF $180.00 Extremely Fine. A touch weakly struck and desirable for the steel gray color and later die state with cracks on the obverse and reverse. No surface problems worthy of note are present. 1975 1814 O.104a VF $130.00 Very Fine. Light gray with some lustre in the protected fields, and rather sharp. Both dies show cracks, typical of this variety. 1976 1814 O.104a VF $200.00 Very Fine. Attractive and colorful peripheral toning, with decent surfaces although there is a minor dig above the '5' on the reverse; 1837 Reeded Edge. Very Fine, but cleaned. Retoned with attractive blue and gold peripheral colors. 2 pieces. 1977 1814 O.105a (R-4). Single Leaf Below Wing CH VF $240.00 Choice Very Fine. This is the lapped die state which has only one leaf remaining in the upper pair below the eagle's wing. Original steel gray and very pleasing for the grade. The Mint was a bit too aggressive in filing off the reverse clash marks, and lapped off one of the leaves from the uppermost pair. This die state remains elusive and has been popular since its discovery. 1978 1814 O.108a. E over A in STATES. EF $140.00 Extremely Fine and Choice except for some deep surface toning which years back someone tried to lighten. A few hairlines resulted, and the obverse color is mottled with dark areas mixed with brighter silver. 1979 1817 O.110 AU $380.00 About Uncirculated. Pleasing natural surfaces retain some lustre in the fields, and the devices show a decent strike. Toned with gold and blue around the rims. 1980 1817 O.111a CH AU $380.00 Choice About Uncirculated. A frosty white coin that retains ample lustre to please the eye and a touch of peripheral gold toning. Well struck and problem-free. The reverse die shows both clashing and die cracks. 1981 1817 O.112a CH EF $220.00 Choice Extremely Fine. Pleasing light gray with traces of dirt on the uppermost devices which attest to the originality of the surfaces. No problems from circulation, and a lovely coin indeed. 1982 1818/7 O.102a. Small 8 CH EF $150.00 Choice Extremely Fine. The underlying '7' is clear with a loupe. Light silver-gray in color with some peripheral gold. One minor edge nick above 'TE' of UNITED. 1983 1818 O.106a (R-3) CH EF $152.00 Choice Extremely Fine. Sharply struck throughout and a later die state with a thin die crack in the reverse legend, but with crisp dentils all around. Light silver with some lustre in the fields. 1984 1818 O.107 AU $160.00 About Uncirculated. Lightly cleaned years ago and now retoned with delicate blue and gold around the periphery. Lustrous in the fields and the surfaces are clean. A few minor surface scratches are visible with a loupe. Both dies show evidence of clashing in the fields. 1985 1818 O.108. Pincer 8s EF $200.00 Extremely Fine. The Pincer 8s are the result of tiny openings at the top of each '8' in the date. Light silver with a touch of peripheral gold. An average example for the variety collector. 1986 1818 O.111 CH EF $180.00 Choice Extremely Fine. A well struck coin that retains ample originality with pewter gray color throughout and pleasing surfaces and rims. 1987 1818 O.111 EF $140.00 Extremely Fine. An average strike for this die pairing and medium gray with hints of gold near the rims. 1988 1818 O.114a (R-3) CH EF $240.00 Choice Extremely Fine. Attractive copperish and blue toning on both sides, with lustre in the fields. Problem-free surfaces. 1989 1819/8 O.102. Large 9 over 8 EF $180.00 Extremely Fine. Fresh, natural surfaces are silver in color with darker hues near the devices. A decent strike and clean surfaces which have no significant marks or nicks. 1990 1819/8 O.104. Large 9 over 8 EF $170.00 Extremely Fine or better. Muted gray and gold throughout. One tiny rim tick on the reverse at about 5:00. Very attractive. 1991 1819 O.108 (R-3) CH EF $170.00 Choice Extremely Fine. Light silver and slightly reflective. A well struck and pleasing coin for the grade. 1992 1819 O.109 AU $320.00 About Uncirculated. Original light blue and russet toning is very eye catching. This is a later die state with the 'TE' of STATES connected at the top and bottom by engraver's scratches. The die was likely touched up late in this die marriage and these lines were accidentally placed on the die connecting the top and bottom of the 'TE'. 1993 1819 O.114 (R-3) EF $130.00 Extremely Fine. Lovely peripheral rainbow toning on the obverse and reverse, likely from storage in an old coin board album for decades. The centers are bright silver. A few minor dull scratches can be seen with a loupe on either side. 1994 1819 O.115 (R-3) AU $200.00 About Uncirculated. Bright silver with a touch of peripheral gold toning on both sides. Some lustre resides through the stars and legend. A few hairlines and a thin pin scratch are noted. 1995 1820/19 O.102. Curl Base 2, Small Date CH VF $315.00 Choice Very Fine. Especially well preserved with pleasing original semi-prooflike fields. Steel gray with a touch of blue near the rims. The overdate feature is particularly bold on this die pairing. 1996 1820 O.105a (R-3). Square Base Knob 2, Large Date EF $360.00 Extremely Fine. Sharp and attractive with the colorful peripheral toning and clean surfaces. This later die state has several faint obverse cracks as noted in the Overton reference. 1997 1821 O.105a. Brilliant Uncirculated BU $875.00 - but cleaned years back. Bright silver in general with the periphery ringed in light blue and gold. There is some minor residue within the vertical shield lines. Sharply struck, and a middle die state with the crack through 'TAT' light. 1998 1821 O.105a EF $220.00 Extremely Fine with good eye appeal for the peripheral gold and blue toning. Bright silver to the centers. 1999 1822 O.107 AU $130.00 About Uncirculated. This is the ''button cap'' variety. The obverse is Choice but the reverse has some dull scratches, mostly in the field over the eagle. 2000 1823 O.102 (R-4). Patched 3 AU $525.00 About Uncirculated. This is the popular variety in which the so called ''Broken 3'' obverse die has been patched to repair the slight break at the center where the loops join. Light silver in color with enhancing gold toning around the devices and periphery. Traces of lustre remain, and the coin is reasonably appealing for the grade. 2001 1823 O.105 CH AU $260.00 Choice About Uncirculated. Just a bit of rub and very nicely toned with iridescent accents highlighting the lettering and devices. An attractive collector coin. 2002 1823 O.107 CH EF $160.00 Choice Extremely Fine.
