Obverse type: Liberty's capped bust facing left. LIBERTY engraved around the base of her cap, 1811/09 below her bust. Reverse type: Modified heraldic eagle derived from the Great Seal of the United States of America. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the upper half of the rim. E PLURIBUS UNUM on a scroll above the eagle's head. Denomination '10 C' below the eagle. A magnificent example and one of the finest seen. Nearly on a par with Eliasberg's and graded the same as Lovejoy's JR plate coin. Single variety year. All 1811 Dimes were struck using an obverse die originally intended for the coinage of 1809. The older dated die was put into service for the coinage of 1811, married to a reverse that had already been used two years earlier for the issue of 1809. The obverse and reverse of this piece are pale silver gray in color. There is an area of darker toning visible on the date numerals. The fields are attractively frosty. The reverse die is severely broken, from the rim into the center, in multiple places.
