1809 JR-1 (R-4). Choice About Uncirculated. Obverse type: Liberty's capped bust facing left. LIBERTY...1809 JR-1 (R-4). Choice About Uncirculated. Obverse type: Liberty's capped bust facing left. LIBERTY engraved around the base of her cap, 1809 below her bust. Reverse type: Modified heraldic eagle derived from the Great Seal of the United States of America. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the upper half of the rim. E PLURIBUS UNUM on a scroll above the eagle's head. Denomination '10 C' below the eagle. A second example of this first year of type and one in far better condition than most others seen. This is a tough year to collect since most examples found grade EF or lower. Nicer than Eliasberg's 1809 which was graded AU, for example. The obverse and reverse are attractively toned in a very deep shade of coin silver gray and iridescent green. The fields are bright and reflective, and when angled through the light the piece has a very pleasing flash. Stars on left on the obverse somewhat soft, some letters in the peripheral legend around the reverse a trifle flat.
