Sharply struck with mellow gold surfaces and a wealth of fine detail. One of only 4,160 struck of this single variety for the date. The Dannreuther-Garrett auction report shows 31 appearance of this date over 10 years, only four of which were graded higher than the present example. This thoroughly pleasing coin must rank high in any listing of top-grade specimens that might be drawn up. Only about 40 specimens are thought to survive by authors Bass-Dannreuther in their as yet unpublished early gold book.
