1787 Machin's Mills (Atlee) Halfpenny. Vlack 17-87B. 114.5 gns. Choice Fine. Rich mahogany brown surfaces are of an attractive hue not often encountered on this variety or in the entire Machin's series. Uncharacteristically smooth, this coin exhibits minor patches of darker coloration at the reverse rims from the 11:00 to 3:00 positions. Struck a trifle off-center on both sides, cutting off the tops of a few letters. Struck from an early state of the dies featuring minor cracking at 'GE' on the obverse but no sinking of the reverse die. Here is a very attractive specimen of this common variety.
