1786 New Jersey Copper. Maris 14-J. Rahway Mint. 151.9 grains. Uncirculated. Light golden brown surfaces exhibit abundant mint lustre and are generally well preserved, with even the subtle die preparation marks clearly visible in and around the shield on the reverse. The strike is bold and full, bringing out the most intricate details on the horse's head and mane as well as clearly defining the details in the reverse shield. All legends and devices are fully on the flan, with even some of the denticulation visible on both sides. As is clearly visible in the photo, this never circulated New Jersey copper has an amorphous area of verdigris at the right obverse as well as intermittent areas of verdigris on the reverse. Despite these deposits, this heartbreaking Unc will find a welcome home in a fine New Jersey copper collection.
