The Printed Valley Notes were necessary to succeed the Handwritten Valley notes due to the increased demand for small change. The notes, like the Handwritten Valley notes and Reissued Kirtland notes were 80% backed in gold dust. Thomas Bullock and Brigham Young set the type on the press designed by Truman Angel. The seal used was designed in Nauvoo by Young and John Taylor.
