 1883 Gem Brilliant Proof. Outstanding, deeply chrome-like fields are watery and boldly reflective. The strike is impeccably strong and the fields are essentially blemish-free, as is expected of a Gem. Central devices are frosty orange-gold, framed by watery fields that exhibit the haze that is sometimes encountered on these 19th century brilliant finish Proof gold coins. A mere 40 Proofs were struck of this date, and only a half dozen auction appearances of this date were recorded in the last five years.
