1915'S' $50.00 Octagonal. Panama-Pacific Exposition. Brilliant Uncirculated with claims to Choice generally, the reverse on the threshold of Gem. This boldly struck coin boasts the richest red-gold lustre covering both sides. A glass finds some central obverse abrasions, probably from unguarded contact with other coins in the past. This coin remains a dramatic example of a type struck in memory of the Gold Rush $50 'Slugs' of U.S. Assayer Augustus Humbert. This denomination had a substantial projected mintage, but its high initial cost discouraged sales, making this one of only 645 Octagonal pieces released.
